Goal:
Create a PSA poster and in-person campaign ad about the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Approach:
The concept defined the point of isolation in someone’s mind through a black well that is getting lighter as it gets closer to the source of help and the phone number. In the guerilla campaign, I played with the opacity to show that the source of help and light lies outside of the dark thoughts that swirl in your own head, presented in white and black respectively. This light turns into the outside and other people when the poster is taken in its context- being placed in a bus-stop with a transparent window. The one thing I want people to take away from this is the importance in reaching out to other people.
On the treatment of the opacity levels, I wanted the piece to have both black and white pigments when printed so that it would still show through at night. Regardless of the time of day, the number is always going to be white to show the 24 hour availability of such a service, and I assumed that the inside of the station will always be lit.
